Phase 1 Engage and Inquire
Creating a team of individuals who would enjoy living and working together in Independence, VA - in Grayson County rural southwest Virginia - near the North Carolina border. Heartists are those who live from the heart and commit to consensus decision making, creative collaboration, and inspirational program development.
Four private ensuite rooms are available with one year leases. Heartist Hohm brings together a team to build a thriving community/education center in collaboration with Peace Production, 501c3 nonprofit organization. The intention for this space is to be our Heartist Headquarters where we create activities, programs, and circles that draw the public in. Working in collaboration with the city, county, and other businesses - Independence will become a destination location.
Phase One will begin with getting the commercial kitchen certified, painting the exterior, and any interior repairs needed (minor). We will engage the community and inquire as to how best to serve. We know that educational and inspirational activities for youth are in short supply!

Phase 2 Events, Programs, and Activities
Independence, VA is one of many small rural communities that has been 'dying on the vine' since the 1950s when the passenger rail service stopped. Grayson County has a rural, agricultural culture with artists, musicians, and farmers. The surrounding land is being purchased by people relocating from the cities in favor of a quiet rural life. In the past year, Independence has obtained a new City Manager and this County Seat is taking action to become a destination location. We will support that effort with Heartist Hohm.
A commercial kitchen will enable culinary arts, 'homemade' food products, and catering for events. Our neighbor, Roots at Grayson, is a wonderful restaurant/bar already in place for collaboration. Other programs such as community talking circles, self healing practices, youth inspiration events, senior and youth center activities, and more to be developed based on the community's needs and desires.

Phase 3 Full Production Site
Heartist Hohm will host fully scheduled educational and artistic programs and activities that build community and bridge generations. Ultimately, we intend this project to be a seed that will be replanted in communities across the world - each unique and with proven elements that bring people together while inspiring youth for future generations.

We have limited space available for co-creators to live onsite at Heartist Hohm. We will lease two or three rooms and retain one room for overnight guests.
